Due to the varied nature of work that CIMA-qualified people are equipped to do, and the fact that CIMA-qualified people are eligible to work across industries and across sectors, part-time jobs are available for people with CIMA qualifications.
Part-time jobs are not as easy to find as full-time jobs, and usually offer a lower salary. However, some smaller companies are more flexible than the bigger companies, and will be more prepared to offer part-time employment. Such positions might not be explicitly advertised, and it might be helpful to approach companies directly to ask them whether they would be willing to employ you on a part-time basis. It would also be useful to keep an eye on local newspapers and other forms of advertising.
If you have been working for a company for a long time and have established a good reputation for yourself, you might also be able to negotiate with your employer for a part-time position or for more flexible working hours.
Some positions are more suitable to part-time work than others. For example, it would probably be easier to find a position as a part-time CIMA lecturer, Accountant, Business Advisor or Business Analyst than what it would be to find a part-time position as a Financial Manager or Financial Director.
Things to keep in mind if you are employed on a part-time basis:
-
If you are working part-time in order to fulfil the practical experience requirements for, your qualification, CIMA will recognise such experience on a pro-rata basis.
-
Even if you are working part-time, you are still required to meet CIMA’s CPD (Continuing Professional Development) policy requirements.
